The Hidden Germs That May Be Lurking In Your Rochester Home

Your home may seem clean and tidy to you, but it’s not as clean as you think. There are plenty of harmful bacteria lurking in your home, which can cause illnesses if ingested, inhaled or touched over an extended period of time. In fact, many people carry dangerous germs in their homes without even realizing it! So if you want to keep your family safe from disease-causing microbes, make sure to read this guide on the hidden germs that may be lurking in your home. The sooner you catch these harmful bacteria and start disinfecting them away, the better!

What types of harmful bacteria are found in homes?

If you’re hoping to keep your family healthy, it’s important to know what types of harmful bacteria are found in homes. There are a variety of microbes that could be lurking within your home, including those that have been proven to cause respiratory infections, diarrhea, and pneumonia. According to research from America’s Test Kitchen, three of these common bacteria include Klebsiella planticola, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Acinetobacter calcoaceticus.

Harmful Bacteria Found Around Homes

Studies have found that harmful bacteria are commonly found around our homes. The most common sources of these bacteria are faucets, sponges, and doorknobs. When people come into contact with these items they often don’t wash their hands, but rather wipe them on their clothing or other surfaces near them. Harmful bacteria can live on these surfaces for months and easily spread to others who come in contact with it.

Harmful Bacteria Found On Kitchen Countertops

Kitchen countertops are notorious for containing germs. A study has found that kitchen countertops contain more bacteria than bathroom doorknobs! Whether it’s from kids running around or leaving food out, there are plenty of germs to get on your counters. The good news is that it’s relatively easy to prevent bacteria from spreading to your counters by being vigilant about hand washing, cleaning up spills immediately, and keeping food out of high-traffic areas.

Harmful Bacteria Found on Bathroom Surfaces

Bacteria spreads easily around your home, which is why it’s important to keep your bathroom as clean as possible. However, even if you don’t have young children or pets in your home, you may be surprised by how many bacteria can hide on seemingly ordinary surfaces. One study found that harmful bacteria can be found on six out of ten bathroom surfaces tested. The most contaminated areas were behind toilets and underneath sinks.

Harmful Bacteria Found Under Kitchen Sinks

Kitchen sinks are a breeding ground for harmful bacteria, according to a new study from leading plumbing firm Roto-Rooter. Two hundred and forty-six homeowners took part in Roto-Rooter’s 2015 Kitchen Plumbing Survey, revealing that kitchen sink bowls contain 11 different species of harmful bacteria – including E. coli and salmonella – capable of causing disease or infection.

Harmful Germs Found in Dirty Carpets

There are hundreds of thousands of dust mites living on your carpets at any given time. As disgusting as that may sound, it gets worse. Dust mites eat dead skin cells that you leave behind every day, which they then shed themselves! The next time you touch your carpet, think about how many thousands of little dust mite turds are touching your hand.
